What is IoT? Definition of IoT, the Internet of Things

Definition of IoT

The IoT ( Internet of Things ) or Internet of objects brings together objects and equipment connected (to the Internet) and the technologies (largely networks and software) relating to them, and by extension the universality of everything that can be connected via the Internet network to receive and/or transmit data. The IoT is considered Web 3.0, the generalization of the Internet and its connected uses.

What does IoT – Internet of Things mean?

The openness of the Internet and the accessibility of the network make it possible to connect a multitude of objects to it for a multitude of uses, allowing the whole to communicate. The ITU (International Telecommunications Union) says nothing else when defining the Internet of Things as ” a global infrastructure for the information society, which makes it possible to have advanced services by interconnecting objects (physical or virtual ) through existing or evolving interoperable information and communication technologies ”.

Any object that can connect to an open network on the Internet is potentially a connected object. It is in its uses that it finds its usefulness, uses defined by embedded programs, algorithms, or by remote solutions on servers (in the cloud) which receive information from objects, sensors for example, store, analyze them, process them, and possibly automate actions that are sent back to the objects.

If ‘general public’ uses are beginning to make themselves known, smartphone, watch or connected household equipment, home automation, e-health, it is above all in its industrial dimension that the IoT offers extraordinary potential, from the simplest in sensors and measurement, to the most complex, robotics, digital controls, remote control, etc. We will then talk about IIoT ( Industrial Internet of Things

The 9 best articles on IoT, the Internet of Things

7 out of 10 companies have already deployed an IoT solution (IDC)

On average, companies with more than 200 people have a fleet of 4,000 connected objects, we learn from this infographic signed IDC.

IoT, what uses for the €250 billion Internet of Things

According to a BCG study, the Internet of Things market should reach 250 billion euros in 2020, dominated by the IIoT, the Industrial Internet of Things.

The unsuspected power of the IIoT (Industrial IoT), subject to having the right partner!

Talking about the IIoT could be summed up by talking about the presence of sensors in industry. However, this would be to miss the essential point, the incredible possibilities offered by this field of the future, on the condition of having partners capable of responding to the projects.

8 skills to bring together to get started in the IoT

6 out of 10 companies claim to have Internet of Things projects underway. But do they have the necessary skills to bring their project to fruition?

The impact of IoT in transformation (infographic)

With great investments, great hopes, but the road is likely to be long… The Internet of Things will have a strong impact on the digital transformation of companies, in the future!

Make 2017 the Year of IoT Security

Companies dedicated to the Internet of Things (IoT) sometimes overlook the issue of security. Thus the risks of attack and hacking become more and more real.

The impact of Big Data at the service of the IoT

The Internet of Things is experiencing considerable growth, and is impacting or will impact many areas of our economy and our daily lives. The IoT also generates such volumes of data that only Big Data can absorb and analyze them.

IoT, companies lacking skills

Businesses are making changes to integrate the IoT or Internet of Things. 71% of them collect data on IoT platforms. And 90% plan to dramatically increase IoT usage over the next year.
